Advice in selecting a lodge

Hello all - I am in the process of visiting lodges in my area to determine where I would like to petition. As I am visiting these lodges, I am looking at factors like: (1) do I connect well with the brethren there, (2) location/distance from where I live, (3) how active the lodge is, (4) the strengths of the lodge (ritual, charity, etc.). I am curious to know, looking back at your own journey, how would you weigh lodges if you had to make this decision all over again? Thank you in advance for your insights.

This sword was my great grandfather’s and I am wondering if anyone here might have more knowledge as to whether this sword is a Masonic sword or potential from a different fraternal tradition. Based on the knight’s helmet on the hilt and the silver working tools (hammer, anvil, tongs) I thought this might be a commandary sword? His name is emblazoned on the sword itself as well. As for the buckle of the sword belt I’ve been unable to find info about that online. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

UPDATE: After some additional search and some hints from others, it appears this is an Odd Fellows (IOOF) sword. Thank you to all who responded.
