This Greek Orthodox Shrine / Chapel at Restland Cemetery in Dallas, Tx.
This rests in the designated Orthodox Christian section of Restland Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas. Not 100% certain on the iconography, but it seems to be depicting the Anastasis (traditional Orthodox for "The Resurrection of Christ"). It illustrates Christ shattering the gates of Hell while lifting Adam and Eve out of their tombs, symbolizing the redemption of humanity. I want to say, there’s also an Ambo— which* *is basically an elevated podium or platform in the center of it (on the ground). I think it’s where the clergy (or whoever, in this case) may chant Gospels, deliver sermons, or pray. It’s also utilized from time to time by our local parishes to host outdoor memorial services (like Memorial Day, or Bright Week).
Backstory: Both sides of my wholeee entire family are buried at Restland, (and have been since the 1940’s), so we’re there Fre. Quent. Ly. I honestly love it, it’s always been my little slice of peace, nature, art, and appreciation for how those choose to express and experience their grief. I was also just naturally exposed and around lots of death and grief when I was younger, so I find visiting / appreciating these things as second nature to me. Anyway, As someone who’s there all the time, I couldn’t believe I stumbled upon this beauty for the very first time (the grounds are massive— over 375 Acres of land)! We have to drive across the street to the other entrance of the grounds if we wanna “visit” everyone lol. But yEAH whata freaking BEAUT!
