Did I miss something? I feel like yesterday it just started showing up on like every other post. I’m genuinely so confused where this came from and how it instantly became such a trend.
Especially if they’re easily forgiven and just become good old pals, or their actions are just completely ignored and disappear, or if the plot treats the victim as the bad guy for “comedy”.
I can’t think of many right now but I swear I’ve quit watching or reading so many things because of plots and writers that make characters like this.
Naoka Ueno - A Silent Voice (Movie)
I haven’t read the manga so I’m exclusively talking about what happens in the movie.
Just like all the other kids that used to abuse and bully Nishimiya, she did but didn’t feel any remorse for it. All the kids who bullied Nishimiya are all pretty scummy and don’t show much remorse for their actions except Ishida, even Miki blamed the bullying on everyone and never took accountability and stood on her high horse acting like she was morally superior. But Naoka never grew up, she’s still in her childhood thinking that everyone their with is best buds, continues to harass Nishimiya, and then later actually just assaults her and throws her into a gate. And then NOTHING COMES OF IT, she’s just suddenly part of the friend group. No one cares she still talks like crap to Nishimiya and shows less than no remorse.
Hiyori Moritani - The Troubled Life of Kotoura-san
A sloppy tsundere trope where she gets jealous of Kotoura and asks some guys at her dojo to beat up Manabe, which is the guy she likes, calling him a stalker that keeps following him. He gets beat up and hospitalized, she starts freaking out and saying it wasn’t her fault, then later she hires a person to TRACK THEM DOWN TO APOLOGIZE. After that she apologizes to Kotoura AND NOT TO MANABE. He starts getting all upset like wtf you should be apologizing to me because you literally ordered a hit on me, and she starts ARGUING BACK WITH HIM LOKE HOLY SHIT YOU’RE IN THE FUCKING WRONG BITCH YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO FUCKING AUTHORITY. And now it’s just like all romantic interest she had in him is just gone as she just continuously argues with him.
Like I know this is some crappy niche media pumped anime/manga that’s supposed to be a gag because it’s “comedy” but like you actually can’t write any better than that? It had such a great setup and sad beginning of the show making it seem almost serious at times, but when you let characters get away with shit like that all the seriousness is gone because you’d rather go the “lighthearted route”, but you can’t go that route because you already made her beat up and hospitalize her “crush” (so fucking loose on that because no one who actually has a crush on someone acts like her) out of jealousy, which is a pretty damn serious thing that you will just ignore.
Don’t even get me started on the bullshit writing of Kotoura’s mom.
