[UK] Manager Making Our Lives Miserable
Honestly just looking for some advice here.
I work in a small team, plus our manager. Some of us have a group chat to help each other with work, but also share what’s going on with us. This manager is making all of our lives hell.
She is rude, condescending, and snappish. She will tell us to always ask if we are unsure of anything, and then when we ask, we either get asked ‘didn’t you see the email regarding this?’ Or ‘you should know this’. She is incredibly micro-managerial, watching us like a hawk, and seems to attribute every little error we make to malicious incompetence rather than just… human error. However a few members of the team, not in our chat, do not pull their weight (I’m talking like 10x less work than we do) and nothing ever seems to be done about this.
I have called in sick, with plenty of time, and have been told it’s too short notice and I’ll be letting the team down. Members of my team have had horrible experiences with her in meetings where she’s blown up at them for bringing up issues, and told them they’re wasting her time. We get attitude if we bring up company issues. Booking holiday is a nightmare as she won’t let more than one person be on AL at a time.
She also tells us sensitive info about others if she’s feeling chummy with us in that meeting. I’ve been told info about others members of my team. She has slagged off the team as a whole to one of my colleagues.
There’s more, but basically we’re all getting fatigued and I can feel myself burning out and my mental health getting affected. Is there anything I can do here? Or is this just a ‘suck it up, there’s no recourse here’ type of situation?
