What causes that terrible feeling 5-10 minutes before the earthquake hits?
Recently moved to Japan, started experiencing earthquakes for the first time.
Each time about 5-10 minutes before it hits I get the whole feeling of impending doom and feel like I’m being chased around and have to run away. I’ve literally run home or started freaking out silently walking down because I feel like I’m in an adrenaline surge.
The first few times I assumed it was some weird anxiety attack or that I hadn’t had enough water or was dehydrated or something, but then each time there would be a (tiny) earthquake that originated nearby but not directly where I am.
The two times I fully freaked out were earthquakes that lasted longer than 30 seconds, but again were mild where I was and much stronger elsewhere.
Google isn’t much help since you-know-what messes up the decent search results we used to get and neither is what I’ve found on Reddit because all I can find is something about ‘pwaves’ (but those are apparently only a few seconds before hand and are pressure changes?) and people claiming to be psychic.
Is there some measure that does significantly change that could cause this? I’ve always had excruciatingly painfully sensitive ears, and I do get a bit of vertigo to go with the blind panic
I’ve never dealt with earthquakes before so I apologize if this is something that most people know, but it’s all new to me
