Stepping down thread size on an inner tie rod/rack end
Infinite wisdom seems to have struck Lexus when they made the steering rack for my RC. Instead of making the entirely replaceable tie rod freely available, they expect you to drop >1.5k for an entire electric power steering rack. There are no part numbers on the existing part, nor on any parts diagrams - its a complete dead end. In the spirit of not humouring total bullsh*t, I've bought a tie rod with the correct total and installed length (based on the worn one that came off the car). Only catch is that it has the wrong thread diameter but the correct pitch. I need the wheel-end thread sized down to M15x1.5 from M16x1.5. Any advice on if this is a simple job for a machine shop or am I going to run into some major problems with such an incremental change?
