Recommendations to learn more about sailboat maintenance...

I'm finally taking the plunge and getting my first sail boat! I'm looking forward to fun on the water but also I know this is going to come with inevitable maintenance surprises so I want to be as prepared as I can. What are your go to resources to learn about maintence, repairs and improvements? I'd love to hear some recs for books, websites, courses etc. I've been sailing for a long time but never owned a boat so this is a big unknown for me.

Does a kitchen need a variety of cabinet hardware?

My Ikea planner put the same size cabinet handle on doors and drawers. In most pictures I see more variety, like drawers with knobs, cabinets with longer shorter handles. The size he used technically fits everywhere, but does it look better to have a variety of sizes or is there a practical reason? I don't really mind going with it but I'm assuming he did it that way just to get the design done quickly.

Costco confused techs

I just went to Costco pharmacy for the first time and it took nearly an hour because the tech was baffled by the Lily Savings card. He knew what it was but took him about 100 tries to enter the number for the discount applied.

I'm hoping to speed this up next time or order for delivery but I don't see any way to just enter the Savings Card number to my account. Has anyone done this before? I'd rather pay the higher price at Shoppers than go through that again.

Tiller or wheel?

Edit: For reference, the boat is a 27ft Aloha. Given all the feedback it seems like a tiller is the way to go for a boat like this. I am new to sailing so improving my skills is a priority and I may size up eventually. Thank you all for the insights!

I have the chance to buy my first boat from a person I know well and trust. She's taken great care of her boat, it's clean and has tons of upgrades making it a very good deal. The downside is it's got a tiller which I just don't enjoy sailing with as much as a wheel.

Can any one tell me if they prefer a tiller and why? Can I learn to like steering with it as much as a wheel?

Do you regret your Ikea kitchen cabinets?

I'm planning to buy Ikea cabinets for my kitchen remodel. I contacted a general contractor for the electrical, plumbing and other work needed, and I guess he was hoping to also provide custom cabinets. When I told him my plan was to purchase them from Ikea, he went on a bit of a rant saying his customers regret buying Ikea, that the quality is bad and the costs are always more than quoted.

I know he wants to make a sale but is any of this true? Would love to hear from people with Ikea cabinets and if this matches their experience.

Roast my Ikea kitchen plan!

Hi! I'm hoping to finalize my new kitchen reno and want to see if any one can spot design flaws. Our first one looked good until I realized I couldn't get to the sink when the dishwasher was open so am not blindly trusting the Ikea designers anymore! My layout provides a lot of frustrating constraints but I think I've landed on the best possible solution. Your feedback is much appreciated!

EDIT: Getting some great advice but I will point out a couple of constraints.

Due to building codes my stove needs to be moved away from the wall. That leaves little options but to put the sink and dw in the island. I would prefer to leave them as is if I could.

Also the little half wall is annoying as hell but it can't be moved either.

Using Lily savings card with insurance

Manulife has given me a lifetime max of $1500 for Zepbound so I want to stretch that out. My Shoppers Drug Mark won't apply the Lily discount while it's covered by insurance.

Have anyone used a pharmacy in Toronto that will let you use the discount while insured?

Please critique my Ikea kitchen

I'm trying to finalize this layout: https://kitchen.planner.ikea.com/ca/en/planner/219B9BD6-D1DE-4C15-8779-2CFE293C8645/?utm_source=chatgpt.com&ref=share

Can anyone provide feedback on any major issues or improvements? My kitchen is a funny layout so unfortunately there's not a lot I can change but I want to make sure I've considered all the options before locking it down.

I'd like to buy a sailboat (I live in Toronto, ON). Any advice?

I'm still at the "thinking it through" phase but feel like I'm finally ready to purchase my own boat. Basically just want something smallish that I can use to practice and explore in and around the Toronto harbour. I still don't know what I don't know--other than yes I know there will be expenses and headaches. Any advise you wish you knew before buying your first sailboat?

EDIT: to be more specific, I'm looking for info on what's a good keel boat maker, or ones to stay away from, red flags on used boats etc. Any advice on avoiding mistakes when buying a used boat too.

I did my first month on 2.5 and it went really well. Not much side affects and moderate appetite suppression. I followed my dr's advice and moved up to 5 since I was handeling the 2.5 well. However, on my first day I've noticed more hunger than when I was on 2.5. I'm hoping this is only temporary! Has this happened to anyone else? Did it get better?
