Which modules should (not) be used?

Hi everyone,

im rather new to darktable and tried reading up a lot. Theres still a ton of information out there but darktable seems much more technical/adjustable than other software i used, so i´m still a bit overwhelmed.

One thing that concerns me during my edits is which modules i should/should not use. As far as i understand the "best" or at least standard tone mapper right now is AgX. Every now and then I read on some reddit-posts that certain modules are generally outdated or should not be used with AgX because it is a display referred module or that simply another module works better with AgX. I do know that darktable has a list of outdated modules and you can hover over any module to see if its working display referred. I´m still unsure when using some modules if that is the right one or if there is at least another module who would work better. Would hate getting used to a "wrong" workflow.

Is there a definite list which modules should or can be used with AgX?

Are MP less important for image quality than most people think?

Hi everyone,

i am a new hobbyist and shoot with a fujifilm XT30iii. I am really happy with the photos and camera so far but often read that for big prints and heavy cropping a 40mp sensor is significantly better. Especially with good light and low ISO i think my photos with 26 mp are very sharp.

Out of curiosity i looked at my wedding photos which are, to my surprise, (probably scaled down to?) 16 MP but are incredibly sharp. Significantly sharper than my 26MP pics. I printed them pretty big (50cm x 70cm) and can literally stand 5 cm in front of them and they are still extremely sharp. They were shot with a Sony Alpha 7RIV and the FE 50mm F1.2 GM.

My question is how is it possible that my wedding photos are that sharp with "only" 16 MP? Is the quality of gear much more important than MP? Or are Photos shot with higher MP and then scaled down still sharper than photos directly shot with a 16MP camera? I do understand that the gear my wedding-photographer used is much more expensive and better, but thought that MP alone would be still an important factor.
