First hamster. I fell for the pet store recommendations. Looking for ideas on keeping a Robo hamster somewhat comfortable while we purchase/build a new enclosure.

Okay so went to a reptile convention to find some viper geckos, struck out, and somehow had my mother convince my son that I needed to buy him a hamster. Honestly I thought it was a great idea, the lady was super about the "space saving" idea of a dwarf and I had a spare 10 gallon tank. I don't have room for a 20 long at the moment and she assured me a 10 gallon was plenty for this sweet(or so I thought ) little floof. I purchased some mixed food from her, as well as some bedding, and we went about our way. Stopped at PetsMart(the smallest one I've ever been in) and struggled to find enrichment items for her tank. I quickly realized there would not be much space for enrichment.

Anyway, we get home, get the little firecracker set up (she was VERY VERBAL) and I realized something just doesn't seem right about the amount of space she has. So I start researching. Mind you this is less than 3 hours after purchasing her, and I had been assured by the seller and the pet store that 10 gallons was plenty. And what do I find out? She needs WAY more space, females tend to be less affectionate and get bored easily, she needs much more enrichment, and that hamsters like dust bathes.

I have space for a 10 gallon tank. Now I'm scrambling to make room for and build/buy something bigger.

In the mean time, how can I arrange her tank so that she can get the most out of her tiny space?
