I have a pretty good sense of rhythm, so writing something like a thrash metal riff, or just a strumming acoustic song comes pretty easy, but i absolutely can't write a bluesy/pentatonic riff on guitar. I've tried putting intervals together, and i've tried just playing what "feels write" but I can never get the write note selection to fit a rhythm i wrote. It's weird, because i can improvise an ok solo but when it comes to writing a riff I have no idea what to do.
