I just noticed something. When Ilya brushes his fingers against Shane's hand a second time and then winks at him in the hotel gym, Shane makes an almost imperciptable hmm sound. How I interpreted this was: Ilya was openly flirting with him, and Shane didn't understand any of it consciously, but it was as if his body was responding to Ilya. And so the "hmm" sound escaped his lips, followed by the tiniest of smiles after Ilya winked at him. And maybe it was his body's way of letting Ilya know: I'm interested in you too.
