Bennedict Mathurin?

He’s a RFA with the Clippers, and I have yet to see anything about him resigning. The only thing I saw was a report mention him in a potential sign and trade with the Nuggets, if the Clippers were to pursue Peyton Watson. I keep seeing the Nets being attached to Watson, and was wondering if there was any interest in Mathurin as well. And I just think he’s the clearly better player at the moment, but could also acknowledge that Watson might have a higher ceiling.

Any chance you could see it happening? And would you even be interested in getting him? Personally I really like his game. Elite rim pressure.

Is Julius Randle at center the worst idea ever?

Defensively, it’s really only a slight downgrade. And that’s mostly from a rebounding standpoint (though Randle is a great rebounder himself just not comparable to Sharpe) than it is from an actual guarding of position.

And on offense, it’s significant. He can actually pull the opposing center out the paint. Him being able to also handle the ball and be a playmaker, makes it so that when he does get to the paint or draws a double, he can make passes out to shooters 1-4. I’m thinking of a line up of Brown, Egor, MPJ, Minott, and Randle.

I doubt he would actually start, but I do think he should be getting significant minutes at the position. It could be a situation where Sharpe is starting games and Randle is closing them.

Maybe I’m just low too on the other centers on this team, but I don’t think it’s unfair.

Rui Hachimura

Considering the prior reports and more generally just surveying the rest of the league, I think it’s likely the next domino to fall. Really elite shooter. Fits how Jordi wants to play. But I’m not really interested in the Nets giving him 20+ mill (which is what he will receive) in general. And especially not give him that amount to come off the bench. Unless Sean Marks is planning some trade already involving MPJ, I don’t think it would be a good signing at all.

No Center?

Sharpe, Wolf, and Wagner as our center rotation is pretty underwhelming. There’s a level of redundancy with Wolf and Wagner. And while I like Sharpe, he’s too prone to commit dumb fouls for my liking. I would have thought it was by far the position in most need. Maybe they still do get one through a trade, but maybe they don’t. Maybe they really do think Sharpe is a quality starting center.

What type of team do you think the Nets are trying to emulate?

I hear the 2025 Pacers a lot, but I think last year’s Charlotte Hornets are more what they’re envisioning.
What do you think?

Future of Noah Clowney

It comes down to this question. What’s his role on this team? He’s supposed to be a stretch 4, but he’s not that good of a shooter. He’s considerably below average at it. I’m looking at the other power forwards on this team, and they all just provide more. Randle is obvious. Minott is a considerably better athlete, defender, and a better shooter. Even Joshua Jefferson. I know he’s an older rookie, but I know at bare minimum he’s going to provide passing and defense that Clowney has yet to show.

I know it’s harsh, but unless he takes big steps forward this next season. I don’t see the point in extending him.

Mikel Brown Defensive Potential

I think people have overrated his defensive prowess. And I get it, as he’s often compared to Darius Acuff, who’s a terrible defender. I think he’ll be a decent defender, maybe something similar to a Tyrese Haliburtion, but more athletic. But the idea that people see a two way player in him is kind of odd.

Semi-Watchable Team = Player Development

Trade was great. Got rid of one of the worst contracts in Nets history (A year or two late but whatever), while acquiring a flawed but fringe all star level player and a late 1st rd pick.

Now you add a Mikel Brown Jr. and a possibly Jayden Quaintance or Zuby Ejiofor late in the draft. Potentially go into free agency for a quality center like Hartenstein or Kessler. And you’re looking at a realistic line up of Brown, Egor, MPJ, Randle, and Kessler.

The point isn’t to get all these guys to make the play in next year. It’s going to be impossible more than likely. It’s to surround these rookies and sophomores with legit NBA talent to develop around. It’s what the Wizards are doing now. It’s what Jazz, Rockets, and OKC did. You’re not developing talent with guys like Clowney, Martin, and Wilson getting 10+ shots a game.

Steps in right direction. Today will be monumental
