Im traveling (from uk) to spain to stay with my gf and her family. Before now i didnt even know the carta de invitacion existed, so i didnt get it before, and ive seen people say not to bother getting it as its never checked. But i havent stayed at her home there since the EES system was introduced.

If i follow peoples advice and dont get the invitacion, what do i do when the machine asks where I'll be staying? Will it ask me for the invitacion and will i have to prove i have it?

Should i book a hotel/airbnb just to be safe? Or is there anything else i can do, as the visit is coming up soon and im not sure i would be able to get the invitacion if i tried.
