Potentially abandoned baby eastern cottontails
We have a nest with 2 almost 2 week old baby eastern cottontails, we’ve done the crosshatch method over the nest and the mother hasn’t come to the nest this evening for their feeding and we haven’t seen her in our backyard at all today when she’s normally in our backyard and near the nest almost all day. I saw her feed them yesterday evening and my sister said she saw the mother rabbit this morning. I haven’t seen the babies leave the nest or start foraging yet. If they do become abandoned (once the crosshatch pattern on the nest hasn’t been disturbed for 24 hours) what should I do? Does anybody know of any rehabs near Kitchener Waterloo area in Ontario that would take them? Last time I tried to bring an abandoned animal to the humane society they said I could either leave it in a park and let nature take its course or they would euthanize it. Thanks in advance
