How does your institution handle wRVUs for multiple procedures?

Physicians often assume that if Medicare pays only 50% for the second procedure, their employer should also credit only 50% of the wRVUs. That isn’t necessarily true. How does your institution handle multiple-procedure wRVU credit?

What do you wish to learn about RVUs and physician compensation before graduation?

I’m a MIGS surgeon and have been teaching my residents about RVUs, compensation models, contracts, and some of the financial aspects of transitioning from residency to practice.

I’m putting together some educational material for them and would love the perspective of other residents. I am trying to create the next chapter of talks I will give my residents.

What do you think residents should better understand before finishing training. More about RVUs? contracts? productivity bonuses? academic vs private practice? something else?

Give me a hand with this. I'd really appreciate the input.

What should a new attending look at in a contract besides salary?

A lot of new attendings understandably focus on the salary number when comparing jobs.
For those who have negotiated physician contracts before, what provisions do you think deserve just as much attention?
Compensation structure, RVUs, bonuses, retirement benefits, malpractice/tail, noncompetes, termination clauses, call, PTO, partnership opportunities, or anything else?
What do you wish someone had explained to you before your first contract?

Hospitalists: what do you wish you had understood before signing your first contract?

For those of you who have been doing this for a while, what do you wish you had asked before signing your first hospitalist contract?
Beyond the base salary, I’m thinking about things like number of shifts, nights, census expectations, RVU/productivity bonuses, PTO, scheduling, extra-shift pay, noncompetes, and termination language.
What turned out to matter much more than you expected?

What do you wish you had asked before signing your first attending contract?

When you signed your first attending contract, what did you focus on besides salary?
Looking back, was there anything you wish you had asked about more carefully: RVU thresholds, call, PTO, noncompetes, bonuses, malpractice, tail coverage, termination clauses, administrative time, partnership track, or something else?
I’m curious what people learned only after they started working.

Do they teach you anything about RVUs, compensation and production in medical school?

I’m a MIGS gynecologic surgeon in NYC. When I talk to my residents I realize that many finish training with very little understanding on how RVUs, productivity thresholds, conversion factors, and physician compensation actually work. I have been asking this in a few physician and training forums. I’m curious.
For residents and fellows: what part of RVUs confuses you most?
For medical students: do they teach you at all about RVUs, compensation and production in Medical School?
