What happens when you have the wrong interpretation for what is sinful?

I see a lot of posts asking is this a sin or is that a sin so there is uncertainty about what constitutes sin in various scenarios. So my question is what happens with somebody who was committing sins but they in good faith did not believe them to be sins? Some people talk about how repentance is a requirement for forgiveness but you can’t really repent for something that you in good faith believe is not a sin. Will God overlook this and forgive anyways?

Conservative Christians care more about the Old Testament and Paul. Progressive Christians care more about Jesus.

I know this is a generalization, but to me it seems to be a real dividing line between conservative Christians and progressive Christians. In terms of what each group focuses on I think it is accurate and explains the different interpretations of the Bible each group has. It doesn’t mean conservatives don’t care about Jesus or progressives don’t care about the OT or Paul, it’s just about the emphasis that they put on them.

Am I wrong?
