i’m technically still in highschool but i want to start making my way towards becoming like a basic car shop mechanic, however idk the first step i should take, i’ve been told start with trade school or sign up for online classes but my family’s not well off so i don’t want to start trade school and then be screwed over by it, if anyone has decent advice or can tell me the path they took it would help out a lot

also some info just incase it’s needed im 18, have a low paying job and, have a way to get around on my own thanks in advance
