Dawn Redwood
Eastern Ontario zone 5b
It might not be an ideal specimen (nursery stock), but it's hard to even find Dawn Redwoods in my region.
The tree is currently about 6' tall with about a 1" trunk at its base.
The secondary leader starts very low on the trunk and is pretty vertical. Due to the secondary leader, there are a lot of crossing branches between the main and secondary leaders.
Early fall is apparently the next best window to plant this.
Should I do anything with this tree before planting or wait until next spring after it's had a chance to root.
Is there any scenario where I should keep the second leader (to help thicken the trunk)?
I can provide additional information or pictures if needed.
Thanks
