Hi all. My wife has currently got an opportunity to take a job in San Francisco. The salary will be ~20% higher than she earns at the moment (but still 6 figures). I’m a Systems Engineer and currently earn about half as much as she does. We live in the South East of England.
My gut is telling me that we should give this a shot. However, when I start thinking about the risks it makes me wonder if it really is such a good idea. We’re late twenties, currently have a mortgage in the UK and are doing well for ourselves. I’m having a bit of an early mid life crisis where I think we should go ahead and make the move because we may never get another chance in the future. Especially if we decide to have children.
How is the job market for Systems/Electrical/Controls Engineers in SF? Will I struggle to find a job? I hear COL is high? Would you personally take a risk like this when your life is already pretty comfortable, just for a chance to make it even better?
