I am applying to rent a home

The rent is 2650 and between my partner and I we make over 1/3 of this a year. However they are going to run a credit check and I know our credit scores aren’t great (we’re actively working on it) We also have money in savings that could cover rent in emergencies. Our current landlord will also give us a good recommendation. My question is how important is the actual score and do I explain this to a potential land lord while applying? Or in the case we are denied try and give them this information afterwards
