Why Film? What's the mission?
I started shooting pro in 1977 at my first TV station. Learned from Frank Bowling, the station photographer. All film, of course. We wound our own from the giant raw film stock. Carried field gear for changing rolls in the field.
When digital came along, I was one of the first to buy the big, clunky digital bodies with one lens choice, the one on the front of the camera that was permanent. Then the Olympus line. And finally Canon Rebels and my favorite Canon 7D.
I never looked back to film. And, knowing that I can certainly make my product look "filmy", why? Why go through the film hassle, and the degraded work flow of film? To me, film shooting is an esoteric fell for the film camera itself, not the purest film results.
I no longer shoot as much for paid gigs, I don't really enjoy weddings because my back won't let me do that work. And, marketing photography as artwork takes more than I am willing to go through, still heath issues.
Regardless, I can still make any photograph look like film using post production. Add some tint, look at focus/depth of field, pay attention to artifacting, etc..
What is your why for shooting with film, and what are you doing with your film product?
