AmbientWeather Display

AmbientWeather Display

I developed this Waveshare ESP32-S3 7” display as my AmbientWeather display. I have been frustrated with how the stock display shows data and chose to build my own. I use Home Assistant ESPHome Designer to flash the code. Lightning only shows when there has been a strike <7 days. The backgrounds reflect sky conditions and I have the options to add pages for other items, such as nowcast and weekly forecast. The temperature and dewpoint rings are color coded to reflect temperatures visually. I added a history bar graph to reflect the changes for temperature and dewpoint. All done with Claude assistance on the 4400 lines of code thus far.

LCD Display Rendering Help

What tools are you using to help create lvgl code and item placement on an LCD screen? I'm looking for a tool where I can render the shapes and text/ home assistant sensors and see(live) how it looks, rather than compiling and flashing each time. I'm on a Mac platform. I've tried ESPHome Designer, but it does not support my Waveshare ESP32-S3 Touch LCD 7" properly. I'm current on the latest HA core release.

My Latest HA Project

I had a waveshare 7.5" BWR epaper display kicking around from an old Raspberry Pi project and wanted to find a way to reuse it with my HA deployment. I started out by using the Waveshare ESP32 driver board. I found that it was lacking in PSRAM to handle the rendering of png images, and for some reason, the ESP32 board from Waveshare makes the use of red with black/white difficult because the red either "runs" or pixelates with white.

So. I moved the project to a Raspberry Pi Zero W (both this and the Zero 2 W). Much better results with mixing colors, plenty of RAM on the pi to handle png images and voila. New display fed by my HA sensors. The project is written in python.

I change up the icons and color based on the temperatures.
