Let’s be real for a second: Maul is hands-down the most skilled lightsaber combatant in the franchise. His athleticism, raw aggression, and mastery of Form VII (Juyo) are unmatched. But in the Shadow Lord arc, I want to see more than just a blender of red blades. I want to see Maul use his blade as a surgical tool to dismantle Sidious’s entire ego.

We already know how their stories end, but imagine a version of Maul who doesn't just "fight" Sidious—he out-thinks him to the point of a mental breakdown.

The Strategy: The "Death of a Thousand Cuts" (Literally and Figuratively)

Instead of a head-on suicide charge, Maul should treat the galaxy like a chessboard where every piece he takes is a personal insult to Palpatine’s "Grand Plan."

  1. Surgical Assassinations: Maul shouldn’t just kill; he should eliminate the specific bureaucrats and commanders Sidious spent decades grooming. Use that double-bladed saber to leave a "calling card" in high-security Imperial vaults.
  2. The Combat Psychology: In their final duels, Maul shouldn't just swing for the kill. He should use his superior saber skills to disarm Sidious, humiliate him, and then back off. Imagine Maul parrying every one of Sidious’s "unlimited power" strikes with effortless grace, looking bored. Nothing would piss off a narcissist like Palpatine more than being treated as "unimpressive."
  3. Hurting Him Mentally: Maul should leak Sidious's private communications to the CIS and the Republic simultaneously. Force Palpatine to scramble and play defense for once. Maul doesn't need to win the war; he just needs to prove that Sidious isn't the smartest person in the room.

Maul should be a ghost—a killer who strikes with tactical perfection, leaves Sidious’s plans in literal ashes, and uses his lightsaber not just to kill, but to prove he is the true successor to the Sith legacy.

Let’s see the Shadow Lord actually cast a shadow over the Emperor. What do you guys think? Is Maul’s tactical potential wasted?

I’ve been so incredibly impressed with the animation and the adult tone of Maul: Shadow Lord so far. The way the creators are handling Maul's transition from pure rage to strategic thinking is absolute perfection, and I love the stylistic choice of the smoky watercolor lightsabers.

I’m writing this because I’ve found myself feeling very protective of this show’s unique atmosphere. My personal hope—shared with total respect for the creators—is that we don't have Ahsoka appear in this particular series. This isn't because I dislike her; I actually think she is one of the most legendary characters in the franchise.

However, I feel that Shadow Lord is such a special, dark corner of the galaxy that it deserves to stand entirely on its own. I’m so invested in new characters like Devon Izara and I’d love to see them establish their own legacy without a familiar face like Ahsoka needing to step in. For me, it’s about giving this specific narrative its own breathing room to be the gritty, standalone masterpiece it’s shaping up to be.

Does anyone else feel like keeping the cast smaller actually makes the stakes feel more grounded and intense? I’d love to hear your thoughts, and please know this comes from a place of deep appreciation for the show's direction!
