Gym and physical health

Hi, just wondering how and if anyone kept up with the gym and overall physical health while prepping for the exams? If so, how often did you go in a week and did it slow down in the days leading up to the exam?

SQE 1- Jan 27

Hi, my course starts in less than 2 weeks and I have no idea how to study. A couple of questions please:

  1. How were you studying? With notes and flashcards? Were you typing out much or writing stuff via blurting?
  2. What question banks did you use? I’m with BPP and idk if I have to use others outside of what they provide
  3. Do I read the key cases? How do I consider them in relation to the exam?
  4. How much notes do I need to make? Every slide? How do I actually know what’s important?
  5. How were you actually answering questions in the exam? Did you read the whole question and all the answers? What’s the best technique?

Thank you so much in advance!

Quizlet vs Anki

Hiya, I’m starting SQE prep this September with a provider and wanted to revise some black letter law before my course starts. I had been using Quizlet to make flashcards but then my friend recommended Anki.

Thing is idk how Anki’s interface really works or how best to use it? Were you using it for only flashcards? Or to block out keywords from certain provisions? Also any advice on studying, making a timetable, and being consistent would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Flatmate insists on me paying council tax. What do I do?

I am a student. While budgeting as I moved from up North to London for a part of my program, I didn’t factor council tax because my understanding was students aren’t liable. Throughout Uni, I didn’t pay so I didn’t expect to now either.

While flathunting, I was always upfront that I’m a student. This isn’t new information. However, my flatmate says she didn’t know that students don’t pay council tax. We’ve got a 25% reduction from the council because they know I’m a student.

My flatmate wants me to split it 50/50. After some pushback, she wants me to pay 25% on what’s left. This will have me paying £40/month on something I’m not liable for. My budget for house bills is £160/month and I’m not sure it’ll cover everything as this is my first month in the flat.

I’ve told her I’m not supposed to pay council tax but I don’t think she’s listening. What do I do?

Edit: just adding to say it’s been agreed that I will be paying it. Thank you to everyone who commented, I read them all and I’m super grateful

Why do we spend more on our hair than others??

Title. Mum did my hair growing up so never worried about it. When I was 14 I learned to do my hair. Could braid my own hair and everything else myself. Now I’m 22. I sisterlocs and I cannot be bothered to do it myself. So I pay £170($240) every 6 weeks for reties. My God do I feel so… after. I’m not complaining about the price really. It’s just… idk. Meanwhile my white coworker pays £40($55) for a haircut every 4 months. What is our equivalent?? Natural hair products cost more than that and take time to detangle, wash and go. I don’t wear wigs but those are expensive too. Braids take time, braiding hair costs add up. Only other alternative is to shave it all off, but been there done that. Plus I prefer having hair lol.

Moving next month

Hiya. I’ll be moving to London at the end of next month for my masters program. I have a strict budget of £1,900/month. Would be split as: £1,100 for rent, £160 for bills (no council tax as I’m a student), £250 for groceries and like skincare, £180 for TfL, £10 for phone plan, £150 for miscellaneous like gym and outing, £50 as emergency buffer.

Would be looking for a one bed or ensuite room in zone 2/3. Would prefer to share with just one other person though. Idk if £1.1k for rent would be enough? Does the budget make sense for London? I don’t know how and if l’ll find a place before mid August. I know to use spareroom, rightmove and the rest but do I need to reach out to agents? I’ll be living with my aunt in Kent while I flat hunt.

Just seeking general advice and tips and would be eternally grateful for any. Thank you for your time!

Washdays: what products, how often and everything else

Title. Hiya, I’m trying to build a routine for my starter locs. Started a bit over a month ago and currently, I wash every two weeks with the Heads and Shoulders itchy scalp shampoo. I like the minty feeling, the lather is soo good even on the first wash, plus it helps keep my dandruff under control. Then, once a month I go in with the OUAI detox shampoo for my first wash, and heads and shoulders second. OUAI is my miracle shampoo as it’s the only thing that’s helped keep my scalp under control in the past 2 years. After washing, I go in with jojoba oil on my scalp and hair.

Now my cousin’s not a fan of the shampoo combo. She says it could be too drying or over cleansing especially the Heads and Shoulders as it contains 2 types of sulfates. I haven’t noticed anything too bad yet but idk. Would you suggest I get a moisturising shampoo? At least to use on the days I use the OUAI detox? Or just keep it as is. I have this belief that locs trap more dirt than loose curls so it needs the deeper clean but idk if that’s true.

Thank you in advance!!

So I got sister locs installed nearly a month ago now. Just noticing that the left side of my hair has bigger parts than the right. The actual loc sizes are bigger too and now I’m worried because apparently as it matures it’ll be the same size as the parts? So it’ll only get more obvious. I’m at a loss idk what to do. I can’t go back to my loctitian as I’ve moved and it’ll be so expensive redoing them. Should I just leave it? Locs aren’t supposed to be perfect anyways and I do have more hair on the left side of my hair. Idk what to do it’s soo annoying because it’s my centre part and it’s directly in front of my hair. Oh Lord.

Hiya, I passed my driving test at the start of April and since the address on my provisional license was an old one, I had to do the application myself and update my new address.

Problem is, since I haven’t received my full driving license yet, I did an online enquiry and saw that it was issued on the 17th of April. However, the address on my full license is wrong. The postcode is correct but the house number is wrong. It actually doesn’t exist.

Now I need to get a new licence, but I don’t know if I should contact them and have it sent to my current address, or just leave the entire process as I’ll be moving homes again in less than 2 months. I don’t plan on driving between then anyway and I’m in no rush for my license.
