Still need 1" return filters if 5" media filters at air handler?
I have two American Standard 4 ton 2 stage A/C systems with 2 stage gas furnaces. Both units have 20x25x5 MERV11 filters at the air handlers in the attic. I have been putting MERV 4 fiberglass 1" filters in the returns just to keep the return ducts a bit cleaner. I change these monthly. The return size for one unit is 800 sq inches and the other 864 sq inches. Am I meaningfully restricting flow with these 1" fiberglass return filters?
