VA native watching the Kentucky Derby from New Hampshire. Kinda all over the place. However, this Julep is not. Definitely on the stronger side, but those floral honey notes are fantastic. Let's Go SO HAPPY!
Mint Julep
3 oz Ragged Branch VA Straight Rye finished in honey barrels
.25 oz semi rich honey syrup
8-10 large mojito mint leaves
4-6 dashes of Angostura
LOTS OF CRUSHED ICE.
Glassware: old fashioned glass or if you're a purist Mint Julep copper mug but honestly for home derby watchers, use a solo cup, it'll be fine haha.
Method-Built in Glass
- Add mint leaves and honey syrup to glass and lightly muddle. Rake leaves up along the side of the glass to leave oils on the side of the glass and so you can see leaves on side of glass if using clear glasseware
- add that beautiful honey rye. It's definitely my favorite product from Ragged Branch
- pack with a LARGE amount of ice. All the way to the top. Let's be honest this Rye, although very tasty, is 128.40 proof, so this is a 1.5 hour drink at least, and you want to keep it ice cold.
- stir until in glass until glass is frosty. Got to be frosty cold.
- add another mound of ice to top off the glass and give that signature snow cone look.
- add 4-6 dashes of ango to top ice. I love Angostura, so I might add more. Don't judge, haha
- garish with a sprig of lively mint.
.....and enjoy
