Helping Canadians join the TFSA Millionaires club.

Hey everyone,

Over the last year I’ve been building a Canadian personal finance and budgeting app called Finnomia.

A big reason I started it was because almost every finance app and investing tool I tried felt heavily built around the US. Everything revolves around Roth IRAs and 401ks while Canadians are trying to optimize TFSAs, RRSPs, and now FHSAs.

I wanted something that actually helps Canadians understand where their money is going, track net worth growth, stay on top of budgeting, pay down debt, and make progress toward long-term financial goals.

The goal isn’t to tell people what stocks to buy. It’s more about giving people a clearer picture of their finances so they can make better decisions consistently over time.

We’re opening a closed beta in about a week and I’d genuinely love feedback from people in communities like this.

If anyone’s interested:

Title: I’ve been building a Canadian finance app focused on helping people actually reach FI goals

Hey everyone,

Over the last year, I’ve been building a Canadian personal finance platform called Finnomia, and we’re getting close to opening a closed beta.

The original goal wasn’t really “build another budgeting app.” What I actually wanted was a better way to clearly understand:

  • where money was going
  • how spending habits were affecting long-term goals
  • how quickly debt could realistically be eliminated
  • how savings and investments were trending over time
  • and whether I was actually moving toward financial independence or just feeling productive

A lot of existing tools felt either:

  • too focused on simple transaction tracking
  • too US-centric
  • too cluttered
  • or too passive

I wanted something that helps people actively improve their financial position:

  • track net worth growth
  • forecast cash flow
  • set meaningful financial goals
  • understand spending trends
  • reduce debt intentionally
  • and build real long-term wealth

So that’s what I started building.

Finnomia is designed specifically with Canadians in mind and is focused on making financial progress feel clearer and more actionable instead of overwhelming.

We’re opening a closed beta soon and I’m looking for people who are interested in trying it early and giving honest feedback.

Site is here if anyone wants to check it out:

Also curious what people here think is still missing from most finance tools when it comes to pursuing FI in Canada.

I got frustrated with the state of budgeting apps in Canada, so I started building one

Hey everyone,

Over the last year or so, I’ve been building a Canadian personal finance app called Finnomia, and we’re getting close to opening up a closed beta.

This honestly started as a side project. I work in cloud/platform architecture professionally, and originally I just wanted something to help me sharpen my development skills again and learn more about AI-assisted software development.

But the deeper I got into it, the more I realized how frustrated I actually was with the current options available in Canada.

A lot of the apps I tried felt:

  • heavily geared toward the US market
  • cluttered or overly complicated
  • weak on budgeting
  • missing Canadian-specific financial context
  • or just not very enjoyable to use regularly

I wanted something that gave a clearer picture of spending, budgets, bills, debt, savings, and net worth all in one place without feeling like enterprise accounting software.

So that’s what I started building.

The closed beta is coming up soon and I’m looking for people who’d be interested in trying it out and giving honest feedback while things are still early.

The site is here if anyone wants to check it out:

Happy to answer questions too — especially around security/privacy, planned features, or the technical side of things.

And honestly, I’d genuinely love to hear what features or frustrations matter most to people here because a lot of this project came directly from reading discussions in communities like this one.
