Thinking about moving to New West, what's life actually like there?
Considering New West as a landing spot and hoping to hear from people who actually live there. A bit about me so the answers are useful.
I'm in my mid-20s, work remotely, have a car and a dog. Pretty active. Tennis, running, gym a few times a week, and I want to get into cycling. Big skier. I like hiking and I love the idea of being on the water more, like paddleboarding and kayaking. Socially I'm pretty low-key. I'd rather be at a bar playing cards with a few friends than out at a club.
I'm looking at New West specifically because Vancouver rent seems brutal and I want to be close to the outdoor stuff without paying downtown prices. A quieter life sounds appealing.
Questions for locals:
- How's the day to day feel of New West? Sleepy, lively, somewhere in between?
- Moving in cold with no network and working from home, how hard is it to build a social circle here?
- Realistic access to skiing, hiking, and paddling from New West without a brutal commute?
- Anything about winters, transit, or the vibe that newcomers don't expect?
Appreciate any honest takes, good or bad.
