California section L & K recommendations

I have started to plan a 100 mile stretch from hwy 49/Sierra city to echo lake in Tahoe. I’d love to do more but ya know, bills don’t stop and work calleth

However! I am trying to figure out what the best time of year to go would be (I’m planning to do this 2027). I don’t want to deal with a lot of snow (or any really) or get eaten alive by mosquitos so I was thinking early September?

I know there is a site to check current water conditions but has anyone done that stretch or near it around that time of year? I’m mostly wondering what the water situation is like in the streams since there’s a bit of a stretch where I’ll have to carry quite a bit of water (after Mount Lola to middle Velma Lake; ~28/29 miles)

Thanks!

How to get enough calories on long day hikes?

I know some people will read this and be like, that’s light work, but I did an 18 mile hike over two 10k peaks today in about 8 hours and I am very proud! (And very sore haha)

However, I am having trouble with getting in my calories because I get so nauseous when trudging up the steep hills. Any suggestions?

Recommendations for Backpacking with a Camera (wilderness)

I need some recommendations for a way to mount my camera to my backpack while I’m hiking. I have the peak design strap mount and I HATE it. It’s in the way, the camera pulls on my strap and makes everything feel wonky

I have a ULA circuit and for a camera I have an Olympus om1 with a super small 60mm macro on there.

I feel like I need to hang it somewhere else on the bag or between the straps somehow.

What are other folks doing for their setup?

Southern Nevada Backpacking

Hi everyone! I live in southern Nevada and I am trying to find some backpacking trails that are actually more than 18 miles. I’ve done Bonanza Peak to Lower Bristlecone as a day hike so I’d like something more substantial

Obviously as summer approaches, it’s not the time to be backpacking out here for too long but I wanted to see if anyone had any experience or recommendations of backpacking trails south of Mesquite?

I am aware there are numerous hikes in northern Nevada by Elko and Reno/tahoe as well as many in Southern California but it would be nice to not have to travel very far to try something new
