Do people who consider themselves "Marxists" actually read Marx? Especially the economics, volumes 2 or 3 of Capital or Theories of Surplus Value?

  1. Do you think most people who consider themselves "Marxists" have actually read much Marx?
  2. Do you consider yourself a Marxist?
  3. Do you read the economics?
  4. Do you go beyond volume 1 of Capital? Which?
  5. Do you just run with whatever "Marxist" narratives from some tradition or other of "Marxists"?
  6. Are you shooting blind with spontaneous hot takes about whatever feels "radical" at the moment to get likes and scandalize your parents?
  7. Who said "All I know is that I am not a Marxist?"
  8. Is there any other tradition with such a uniquely powerful theoretical base and such utterly powerless epigones?

Edit: added 1, rest of the numbers bumped down.

A different take on the latest academic IDPOL / Jason Arday scandal: is it an attempt by oligarchs to destroy public universities?

Steve Hall is pretty good no matter whether you agree or disagree on that take!

Has the Financial Times been copy-reading Class Unity?

Class Unity says: "The Function of Making Socialism Woke is Controlled Opposition."

In the Financial Times, Janan Ganesh writes: "Socialists are in the business of winning and holding power. It could happen, if they did not keep offering economic dirigisme and identity politics as bundled software. Those who want them to lose on both counts are forever grateful."

Coincidence? Easy plagiarism?

Should we be grateful towards our oligarchs?

Ladies and gentlemen, learn to like the taste of boots… cuz you should be grateful for what your owners do for you when they own you!

Silicon Valley - New Course - Starting Sunday 8/9

Dear Class Unifiers,

Our new course, "Silicon Valley," starts on Sunday, August 9th. You can view the syllabus here:

https://classunity.org/2026/07/28/silicon-valley/

and sign up for the google group here.

The course will meet every Sunday from 2:00-3:30 p.m. Eastern and run for six weeks.

Hope to see lots of you there! The course is open to the public, so feel free to share.

"Nothing has had a comparable social, cultural, and political-economic impact over the past decades to that of the digital revolution and the beginnings of the internet age. From its birth at the hands of the military-industrial complex as a tool of surveillance, to the rise of social media and the monopolization of online life, to the uncanny spectre of AI and the automation of intellectual labor: all that is solid has melted into the algorithmic vapors at a vertiginous pace. What does big tech mean for the present and future of capitalism? Has tech entrenched the dominance of rent-seeking at the expense of productive enterprise characteristic of neo-liberal finance capital? And if so, is there any truth to reports of neo-feudalism supplanting industry and leading to a new mode of production (along with a new super-structure atop a base of microchips and credit)? Join Class Unity as we study the economic and social juggernaut that is Silicon Valley, as without understanding the unprecedented dimensions of global capitalism in the 21^(st) century, the present moment with its bewildering problems lies totally in the dark."

Iran needs to think about Libya

… and remember how Gaddafi ended up when he tried to go along all nice like with the demands of imperial managers of the vested interests.

Steve Hall: Middle class liberals hijacked the left

It wasn’t a new thesis ten years ago, and yet it never gets too old to repeat… What would it mean to de-liberalize the left?

"The Green Party Leadership: A gay Jewish man, a working class Muslim man, a middle class English woman. We are literally a party of unity. We don’t see division, we only see those seeking to divide us. Ignore the media, and come and be part of the fastest growing political party in the UK."

Anything but an ordinary guy who looks like Stalin and can fix your broken stuff and make it work again! This is just the idpol identity coalition model of the democratic party (post-McGovern). Will the coalition they'll try to cobble together be able to be large and coherent enough to do anything? Of course not! That's the point... to paralyze the left everywhere.

Who won't they bribe? Soon they'll have to give back all the money they took from the US to pay for it...
