Shooting board for large frames - recommendations?

Hey all,

I am thinking about making a shooting board to get more precise 45’s on large frames (30x40” to 40x60” or larger, 4/4 and 6/4 stock) for bevel cuts.

Would anyone have any specific advice for the size, depth, or even the best hand plane to use for this? I think the thickest I’ll ever go is probably 8/4 (so, end thickness might be 1 3/4”), with it more commonly being 3/4” to 1 1/2” on the bevel.

I can’t find many guides online for making one. I’ve found a few videos, and it’s a straight-forward concept. Though, for the sizes I’m making, I’m assuming the entire board needs to be much much larger than most I’ve seen. (Maybe a 30x30” shooting board, at least two 3/4 ply thick? Maybe even three 3/4” ply together?)

Would love to hear thoughts from anyone that’s made one, what would you have changed, has it worked the way you hoped?

Cheers
