Is a 19 Month Software Engineering AI Bootcamp with Apprenticeship worth it? (Flatiron School)
Hi Guys,
Looking to get some expert opinions and ideas in general from the community.
I have 10+ year of IT experience and I am currently doing my Bachelors at WGU for Cybersecurity and Information Assurance. Today, I was accepted into Flatiron School for their Software Engineering and AI immersive bootcamp.
Im really stuck to whether I should commit to a program that runs 19 months. There is 4 months of scheduled learning and 16 months of an paid apprenticeship, (15 per hour) which goes to the tuition of the program. I am unsure on how to proceed with this offer on the table.
Given the job market right now in NYC , I really wasn’t getting snagged up either. I can survive for the 19 months as I live in a room in Queens and I am paying 700 per month and receiving SNAP/CA at the moment because I am unemployed.
I feel like in the long run , I would highly benefit from the program however , 19 months is a very big stretch.
Please feel free to comment or dm as I need to make a decision by this week.
UPDATE:
Thank you everyone for your suggestions and information. I turned down the accelerated immersive program. Many of you made great points that convinced me otherwise. At this time I plan on completing my bachelors at WGU Cybersecurity and applying for IT roles in the mean time. Im currently in NYC and the job situation isn’t the best right now. Nonetheless, going to get a few networking certs (CCNA & CCNP Enterprise) to see if that would leverage some opportunities.
Thank you, reddit community !
