Cervia T1 Help: Is a "shoe-on-bars" barefoot run to the mount line legal? (No Flying Mount)
Hey everyone,
I’m training for IRONMAN Italy (Cervia) and I’m panicking a bit about the T1 transition. I know the run from the racks to the mount line is almost 1km.
I cannot do a flying mount. I’ve practiced, but I don’t feel stable enough at speed to be fiddling with shoes while pedaling, and I don't want to risk a crash on race day. However, I also don't want to run 1km on asphalt in my cycling cleats and risk breaking an ankle or destroying my cleats.
My Plan:
I want to leave my shoes resting on my aerobars/cockpit. I’ll run the 1km transition barefoot (or in socks) pushing my bike. Then, just before the mount line, I want to stop to the side, put my shoes on, and then cross the line and mount like normal.
My Questions:
Is this legal? I’ve heard conflicting things about "blocking" the mount line or rules against carrying shoes.
Has anyone done Cervia? Is the ground barefoot-friendly for that 1km, or is it too rough?
If this is a bad idea, what’s the best alternative? Should I just put them on at the rack and suck up the 1km "clippy" run?
I really don't want a yellow card or a crash in the first 5 minutes of the race. Any advice from Cervia veterans would be massive. Thanks!
