Please help me not move back home, looking for 1BR in Edgewater and neighboring areas

Maximum budget of $2000/month, 1 br/1 bath, looking to move/tour ASAP. I have/had a rental lined up in Edgewater that's rapidly becoming a nightmare situation. I will be working remotely, would prefer not to room with others (especially on such short notice), and I unfortunately need to be firm on in-unit laundry due to dermatological issues. I have two cats covered under the Fair Housing Act, and I would prefer resident controlled thermostat if at all possible.

I'd love to stay in Edgewater but I'm not sure how realistic that is. I'm expanding the net to Rogers Park, Evanston, West Ridge, and Skokie. Further south than that on the north side seems to fall outside my price range fairly quickly.

I have been looking on the usual sites and I recognize not much is available now. I just want to at least make the effort not have to move out of Illinois entirely.

How screwed am I?

Toured my current unit in March, lease started on May 1st, moved in May 3rd. During that time, my appliances were not installed until the 14th, I am without air conditioning at present and we're coming up on nearly a week without it, and I have had little to no communication from the management company this entire time. The guarantors on my lease are looking to hire a lawyer to sue for damages and intend for me to move out by the end of next week if nothing further is heard from the management company on how soon the remaining issues in the unit will be resolved.

Should they go through with this, what am I going to be facing as a consequence? This is my first time living independently and everything about this whole move has been a complete nightmare. I have had so many workers coming through without any warning, sometimes to the point where they unlock my unit without knowing I am home or that the unit is occupied, and I can't so much as get a vague timeline on any of it. I have called, emailed, and texted more times than I can count, I've contacted my alderperson (48th ward), and I just can't get anyone to respond. The AC thing is particularly egregious since my unit has been 80 degrees overnight for nearly a week, and I'm not able to thermoregulate well, so I've been at increased risk of further health issues I do not need.

I know this is Reddit and I'm an idiot for asking anything by default, but please be kind.
