I genuinely recommend buying from Merry Manga if you miss RightStuf
This is by far the BEST packaged box of shipped manga I’ve ever received. The volumes might as well be fresh out of the press because the only blemishes on them are just general Manga quality control.
My order did take a fair bit to arrive. It was a little over a month to receive the manga. But there are a few variables at play that make me very understanding of the shipping times.
- I chose to buy volumes on back order from Merry Manga because the prices are better than most bookstores, especially for medium to large orders. This was the self inflicted variable, as I wasn’t in a hurry to get the volumes. This was a first order from MM, so I can’t speak to their shipping times on in-stock items.
- They’re a small business. I can honestly forgive a lot when supporting a small business, whereas I can’t forgive anything from a company like Amazon. Which is ironic, because Amazon will package your manga haphazardly, and when it arrives, it looks slightly better than if they packaged it in a paper shredder instead of cardboard. MM packages their manga with more TLC than I’ve ever received in a relationship.
- Merry Manga’s business moved offices as my order was being processed. They were transparent about that over social media, and they acknowledged it possibly slowing down orders as it was happening. It was a noticeable, but honestly, I can’t be upset at all. I’m proud of small businesses that are successful enough to grow.
This small little haul in the mail genuinely reminded me of RightStuff. The pricing, the care in the packaging, all of it. I will be championing Merry Manga as my new digital store for buying manga in the future. Anyone who hasn’t already tried them out, please do. I would love if we could actually build them up to be the next RightStuf.
