Filtering Certain Domains Out of the Query Log?

I set up my PiHole yesterday on my TrueNAS and I've been enjoying seeing all the data this thing generates in the dashboard. I also have noticed that the hatred for Microsoft is unbelievably based and that leads to my question.

Of my 70k queries so far, 35k of them are 'self.events.data.microsoft.com' and 'mobile.events.data.microsoft.com'. It's making reading through my query log quite congested and cumbersome. Is there a way to filter them out of the log so I can see everything EXCEPT those domains? So far all I've been able to manage is filtering to see just those domains. Thanks!

Long Boot Times?

Howdy, I hit my head over the weekend and decided to try Linux and see what all the fuss was about. I wanted to learn something new. So after plenty of hours spent cursing, struggling, and begging ChatGPT for help I managed to get my install up and running.

I do have an issue with how long it takes my system to start up. It seems like Linux is sending a lot of time waiting on my SSDs to get their life together but I'm not exactly sure what to do about it. From the Boot selection in Grub to seeing my login screen in Arch it takes 90-120s.

Below is my snippet from systemd-analyze blame. From my smoothbrain level of understanding, I'm spending a lot of time waiting for the SSDs to startup?

1min 21.572s sys-devices-pci0000:00-0000:00:01.2-0000:02:00.0-nvme-nvme0-nvme0n1.device
1min 21.572s dev-nvme0n1.device
1min 21.572s dev-disk-by\x2dpath-pci\x2d0000:02:00.0\x2dnvme\x2d1.device

     7.709s systemd-rfkill.service
      998ms systemd-tmpfiles-setup-dev-early.service

While it seems my boot process actually is only taking around 10s once my SSDs come up. So at least it seems once the SSDs are onboard, things move quickly.

So I have two questions: am I even on the right track with thinking these SSDs are my issue and if so, what can I do about it? I appreciate any guidance that can be offered as I try to wrap my brain around this and try to learn something.

HW Specs in case they matter:
I have two SSDs in the system, the 4TB crucial which is my Windows drive and the 250GB Samsung where I wiped the whole thing and it has nothing on it but Arch and the stuff associated with that.

EDIT: I just went through the full boot logs (cause I just realized you can do that) and it seems I'm actually getting hung up on one of my USB devices. I just have to narrow down now what device it is and why.

Impress Me

Sitting on the porch and I know some of you nerds are next level. What is the census-designated place that I'm sat in?

u/BurgersWithStrength — 10 days ago

For as long as I've had this ISP I've always had connection drops during the night. I've done some basic troubleshooting but I'm not a networking pro. I've found that during these outages, my traffic is dropping somewhere between my router and the CGNAT but that leaves me in this situation where I believe the issue is the ISP but the ISP is likely to tell me that it's on my side and to reset my ONT for the millionth time (does nothing).

The drops are consistently sometime between 11PM-7AM and are variable in frequency and duration. The screenshot is just what I recorded last night. I'm curious if someone who understands carrier grade networking maybe able to shed some light on if this issue may stem from something like ISP maintenance or me getting rerouted since I don't have a static IP.

Any knowledge is appreciated as I've been trying to make myself less inept with networking topics over the past year.
