CROSS-COUNTRY SMALL BUSINESS CANADA-ITALY
Hi everyone,
I’m looking for recommendations for a CPA in Alberta with experience in corporate structure, cross-border business, and Canada–Italy tax considerations.
I’m currently exploring the idea of opening a corporation in Alberta for a new business venture. My brother-in-law is based in Italy and would potentially be involved through the Italian equivalent of a corporation/company structure.
The ownership structure we are considering would be approximately:
51% shareholder — me, through the Alberta corporation
49% shareholder — my brother-in-law / Italian company structure
Before moving forward, I would like to speak with a CPA for a proper consultation to understand:
- what the most appropriate business structure would be;
- whether the Alberta corporation should own shares directly or interact with the Italian company in a different way;
- what tax/reporting obligations may apply in Canada;
- how cross-border income, expenses, and ownership should be handled;
- whether there are CRA reporting requirements related to foreign affiliates, ownership, dividends, or intercompany transactions;
- what setup would be clean, compliant, and sustainable before we start operating.
At this stage, I’m not looking for legal or tax advice in a public post. I’m mainly looking for recommendations for a qualified CPA or accounting firm in Alberta/Canada that has real experience with international corporate structures, foreign shareholders/companies, and Canada–Italy business planning.
Any recommendations would be appreciated.
Thank you!
