Question for Bannerlord Veterans. Vassal, est your own kingdom or Merc?

I have over 2000 hours in the game (not a flex, just an unhealthy appetite) and I was wondering what you guys do.

I found setting up my own kingdom to be a bit of a faff (recruiting lords, etc). And just being a vassal much simpler.

What do you guys do? Permanent Merc? Merc up until Clan Tier 6 and then pick a flipped city to setup your own Kingdom?

Couple Questions please chaps. Prisoners at sea & Skills builder

Im on the latest version of warsails on PS5. About to do a new playthrough and wondering if the prisoners escaping at sea has been patched, even when you have perk buffs reducing escape? Dont want to heavily invest in Cunning if it hasnt.

Does anyone have a link for a skills / attribute builder? I want to play around with what skills and attributes I can allocate to a character if they are level 30 for example?

Question to Master Smiths out there, recommendations please

One handed sword - in terms of swing speed and cut damage, is the Engraved Backsword still best in class? Any other parts you tend to slap on?

Polearm- I'm looking to craft an excellent one handed poking polearm (no couch lance needed). Best spear head for this. I am thinking 165 length.

Captains switched when joining a battle (TW says working as intended...)

I love this game, I have sunk over a 1000 hours in it but I am losing my mind because when I join a battle, my captains are switched. So my infantry captain with zero archer skills is now my Archery captain, etc.

Am I the only one experiencing this?

I posted a tech support ticket on this with Taleworlds forum and was told "This is working as intended, the army commander dictates who captains". The issue is, there is no decision making taking place as every time, its completely random. Happens when joining or helping any army in battle, Caravan quests. Basically anytime there is no pre-deployment screen.

I know to many this isn't a big deal for many, but the game is built around developing characters and companions with skill trees put in the game. This issue kinda makes that pointless especially when developing captains for specific roles.

PS5 - latest version (vanilla)
