I talked to someone in a senior position and he said that the best jobs often depend on connections and being liked by other senior people. Is that really what happens?
I was talking to someone who works roughly in executive-level management. He said that getting and keeping a senior job is often about who you know, and whether the other people at that same level like having you around or not. He also said that people in these roles are usually not necessarily more competent than the people who report to them.
Is this true most of the time, or was he just being pessimistic?
