Steam bending wood for boatbuilding.

I have seen some people, when steam bending wood, that instead of just bending it to the side they want, they first give it a bend to the other side.

They take it out of the steam box, clamp one end, and then give it one twist to the other side, and then they come back and go to the side they want. I cant find a video right now but i have seen it several times. Does anyone know what benefits it has?

Is it possible to frame and insulate one with natural materials (and a metal roof) without it weighting too much?

Specifically i would like to not use plastic sheets between the walls.
