Turned 2k Into 10k in Minutes… Then Got Liquidated and Lost Everything. Hardest Trading Lesson of My Life
So I’m a pretty new trader, but I’ve actually been following trading content and consuming videos for years. After dabbling in crypto for a while, I came back with the goal of seriously becoming a day trader.
I finally opened a real account, and in the picture you can basically see how confidence became my downfall.
I started with around 2k. At first I traded normally without leverage/options and slowly made around 50 bucks over a couple of days. In my head I was thinking, “There’s no way people make real money this slowly,” even though my reads and patterns were actually working decently.
So eventually I started trading options/leverage instead.
And honestly? My predictions were right most of the time. I started stacking small wins over and over and managed to grow my balance really fast. That’s where the danger started.
I got confident. Too confident.
I decided to make one big trade using a huge chunk of my balance, and the moment I entered, it felt like the market instantly turned against me. Like the market was waiting for me to finally size up before humbling me 😭
Shortly after, I got liquidated and basically wiped out all my progress.
As painful as it was, I learned a huge lesson:
slow and steady really does win the race.
I realized the problem wasn’t necessarily my market reads — it was risk management, greed, and overconfidence after a hot streak.
So now I’m here asking you guys:
If I start again with a smaller account, what advice would you give to avoid letting this happen again?
How do you personally manage:
- position sizing,
- leverage,
- stop losses,
- and emotions after winning streaks?
Would appreciate any real advice from experienced traders. Lesson learned the hard way.
