Different animation for different episodes?
I'm surprised I never looked this up before:
In the classic 1980s animated series The Real Ghostbusters, the animation was outsourced to several different overseas studios.
This rotating roster of studios resulted in wildly fluctuating art and animation styles across different episodes, with Ajiado Animation Works, TMS Entertainment, Toei Animation, and Sei Young Animation taking on the bulk of the work.
The diverse styles varied by episode, and specific studios became known for their distinct aesthetic:Ajiado Animation Works & Ashi Productions: Handled many of the earlier episodes (and occasional later ones). They are widely considered the fan-favorites, offering a very detailed, cinematic "anime" aesthetic with highly fluid proton beam effects.
TMS Entertainment: Known for animating a large portion of the second season, bringing a highly polished, classic 80s Saturday-morning cartoon look.
Toei Animation: Handled the entirety of the 4th season. Their style featured much more angular character designs and a distinctly Japanese animation aesthetic.
Sei Young & Saerom: Animated several later seasons (Seasons 6 and 7). Their work frequently resulted in softer lines and more simplified background
