Saucy's Story (Memorial)

We made the difficult decision to say goodbye to our sweet boy of 14 years, Saucy, who passed peacefully on 5/12/26.

Saucy was diagnosed with congestive heart failure back in September 2025, right after our other cat, Zelda, passed away. The timing was terrible. We were so heartbroken over the loss of Zelda, and it seems the very next day is when I noticed Saucy was breathing somewhat heavily.

But Saucy fought the good fight. He was so good about taking his heart medicine every single day. He would always eat it as long as I put something yummy on top. Bless him for that.

But lately, his heart issues were not responding to his treatment so well anymore. Fluid would accumulate around his lungs and abdomen that we had drained a few times over the past 9 months, and after draining it in April, the fluid came back within just 10 days. We drained it one more time, increased his diuretic, and the fluid still returned within a few days. We knew we couldn't keep putting him through the procedures to drain the fluid, as that was uncomfortable and unfair to him, so we made the incredibly difficult decision to plan his passing with in-home euthanasia.

It was a difficult decision, because he was still eating and doing most things as usual, but we knew the shallow breathing was uncomfortable and was not going to get better. He wasn't purring as much lately either, which was sad.

We spoiled him as best we could on his last day. We gave him lots of pets, treats, and an In-N-Out patty (which we added some cheddar cheese to). He even played a bit with his catnip toys.

His passing was peaceful, as we opted for in-home euthanasia. It was so hard to let go. When he passed, he was lying in his favorite green blanket, surrounded by those who loved him so much.

Now, let's talk about some good memories!

He was such a good boy. His smoke coat was very unique, always getting comments from people who saw him. His grunty little meow, filled with attitude, always made us laugh.

He used to wake us up in the morning by trampling us. In recent months, though, he was more gentle and would simply walk on top of us to let us know it was time to get up and feed him.

We used to call him our little "cat dog" because he would always shake his head like a dog, and he would always try to eat our food! Gonna miss you sitting at the dining table at each meal just waiting for your chance to snag some food.

The photo I've included where he's sitting on top of 3 pillows is what I refer to as "The Saucy and the Pea". He just loved sitting on stacked pillows, and it cracked us up.

You will be missed dearly, Saucy, aka The Sauce Boss. Give your sister Zelda a hug for us in kitty heaven.

Rest easy, our sweet boy. We love you so much.
