Caleb’s backstory

Just thinking back on C2…but does anyone think that Liam took Caleb’s backstory a little too far? I mean…I felt like they were all competing for the most dramatic backstory…minus Jester maybe…but Caleb murdering his parents and family pet in a violent fire…kinda hard to come back from that, ha. He also told them kinda early. I don’t remember the exact in game time, but I feel like it was only a few weeks when he let it out, and they handled it a little too cleanly. Imagine a new friend told you that…intense.

Beau’s Dad/Family

It’s been a little while since I watched…but it’s always kind of stuck with me that the portrayal of Beau’s dad and family didn’t ever seem to quite line up with the intended story.

I guess the only real interaction we got was when the party went looking for the hag and stopped into the family estate.

The way it had came across from Beau was that they (her parents) were like wicked stepmoms…had never wanted her or cared about her, like just scum parents. But when they pop in, Matt plays them like they were just young inexperienced parents…they loved her…they just didn’t know what they were doing and made mistakes. They…I guess really just the dad…admitted that they made mistakes and apologized, but that they did indeed love her and care about her, and Beau just acted like a bratty 8 year old.

Then as the game closes, Matt says something like, it makes me feel so icky “…to play your asshole dad”. As a side note this phrasing always stuck out to me…I don’t know Marisha’s real family life…but as her fiancé…even as just a joke…it felt like he might tack on a “…in the game…” or just something like that…but that’s just an aside.

Anyway, am I supposed to take that interaction to mean the parents are actually just sociopathic liars, or what? Were they actually assholes or just inept parents?
