Why do people say “just be yourself” like most of us aren’t changing personalities depending on who we’re talking to?

I swear I have a work version, family version, friend version, and “talking to a stranger on the phone” version.

Why do some people seem productive all day while others need 3 hours just to mentally start working?

I genuinely don’t understand how some people wake up and immediately start doing things. For me, the first few hours of work are mostly spent trying to mentally “enter” work mode.

I’ll make coffee, check emails, stare at tasks, open tabs I don’t need, and somehow suddenly it’s noon before I actually become productive. But once I finally lock in, I can work for hours without stopping.

Meanwhile some coworkers seem fully operational 10 minutes after waking up. Is this personality, burnout, dopamine, sleep quality, or what?
