SolarFast CMYK print

I recently bought a bottle of blue SolarFast dye. I immediately got hooked and after only a few test prints I felt that I just had to try multicolor printing.

I took a photo of my Buchla Easel Command synthesizer, masked out everything but the face plate and converted it to a CMYK image. Then I copied each color channel into a new image, added markers and labeled them with the channel names. I only have a laser printer which doesn't print well on transparent film so I printed two copies and layered them on top of each other. I used SolarFast Blue (C), Red (M), Golden Yellow (Y) and Black (K) (which turned out to be ultramarine when exposed). I printed on a heavy cotton-only watercolor paper and used a UV light for nail polish as a light source. I went through the same process four times - painting the dye, putting on a negative, exposing it, rinsing and drying. The exposure time was about four minutes for each color.

I scanned the final image and edited it so it looks as close as possible to what it does in real life. I think the image looks nice for being my first attempt. The shadows became as dark as I hoped for but the aluminium face plate could have been a bit brighter (and less reddish) and the highlights are unfortunately absent. I will definitely try this again and also make larger prints (the one I have posted here is 9.5 x 9.5 cm). I'm currently limited to the nail polish UV lamp which is quite small so I have ordered a larger UV LED panel.
