Questions For Those With Aeroponic Cloning Experience

So literally my ONLY successful cloning experience is at the hands of using an Aeroponic cloner. I have tried all the conventional ways, root riot cubes, rockwool, etc. My only success has been with an Aeroponic cloner.

Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way I either have immense success with the Aeroponic cloner or I have great failure. It’s never in between. Last time I used it it worked like a charm. I have a 16 site cloner. No humidity dome, and it uses a sprayer manifold. The only major difference between last use and this one is I doubled up every site and actually ran 32 clones in it and this time I ran like half of the 16 sites doubled up.

So far it looks like this run is setting up to be a failure. I do everything the same each time I use it. Between runs I clean it exceptionally well and even sterilize it using a very small amount of bleach. I then rinse it out very well with fresh water several times by filling it up with fresh water and running it for about a half hour, empty it and fill it up again.

This run it appears like my cuts are slowly withering away and look like they’re slowing dieing off. I did check the water temps and I’ve been adjusting the PH per the instructions to 5.8 every day since I started. I did notice the water temps were relatively high at the beginning so I turned the AC way up in my lung room and also turned up my inline fan in the tent my cloner is in.

Any ideas on WTF could be causing this? The mother plant was and is extremely healthy. She even got a feeding and watering before I took the cuts. I also made sure I didn’t get any air trapped in the stems by cutting them a second time while submerged underwater. I use EZ Clone Clear Rez and Cloning Compound and then CloneX Cloning Solution for fertilizer. All at the recommended dosages.

Any tips or recommendations would be greatly helpful. This is definitely my Achilles Heal when it comes to growing. Cloning has always been a thorn in my side. Like I said it’s either a 10/10 success or a -10/10 failure. 😂

Screw It! Cuts Taken!

Literally just harvested and reamended last night. Figured I got two weeks until my bed is ready for the next rounds. Said why not take cuts today!

They’re a tad on the short side but they’ll grow!

The Strawberry Drip mother looks like she was ran over by an out of control lawn mower but I got more than 16 SHORT cuts taken. Not sure what the final count is as I just didn’t count. But I have an 16 site aero cloner and several sites are doubled up.

Fingers crossed at least 13 of them end up as rooted clones. 12 for the bed and 1 to reset the mother!

Harvest Day Finally!

Finally harvested my Rainbow Guava #5 x Pomelo Punch and Pomelo Punch tonight. Opened the tent tonight and it just stank. Ran them both the full 12 weeks. It’s amazing what the tent looked like before and after the harvest.

I moved the Strawberry Drip mom into the 2x4 and put the harvest in the 2x2 to dry. I have some serious cleaning to do tomorrow in the 2x4. Next up comes the reamend then two weeks to let the soil cook. Hopefully by then all the tops on the mom will be long enough to take clones and I get can some clones rooted!

Decided to skip pressing the trim

Seeing as how I have an entire pound of fire trim to press and I was getting back 2 grams of rosing every 14 grams and only had 10 14 gram press bags left my growmie and I decided on a gargantuan batch of butter. I just started the first batch today.

It should finish in about 8 hours. I start with un decarboxylized trim and leave the crockpot on high for an hour. Then I turn it to warm and let it sit for 7 more hours. The trim is separated into four equal parts wrapped in cheese cloth. The four pounds of butter is mixed with filtered water so the butter doesn’t burn. When everything is all done I pour the water butter mixture into a big plastic bowl and place it in the fridge. The butter floats to the top and solidifies. Then I poke a hole in the butter layer and and drain out the water. Then I remelt the butter and pour into the butter molds. Perfect sticks of butter complete with tablespoon marks!

Approximately 1000mg per stick! Make any baked goods you want that calls for a stick of butter or even butter a piece of toast or bagel. 😈

Strawberry Drip’s Return To Normal

So for this who have been following my Strawberry Drip it has done a complete 180 now that I’ve transplanted into a 3 gallon fabric pot with freshly amended soil. I topped her to get as many branches as possible so that when she is mature I have as many branches as I can for cuttings to run in my bed for next round. Instead of 12 cuts I think I’m going to run 8 but this time I’m going to veg for a while longer. Probably 2-3 weeks instead of just 1. I’m monocropping her next round! I’ve added pictures of her as a seedling and one as recently as a few minutes before posting this. She most definitely grew out of that weird mutated phase she started in!

New Beans and Making My Own Ferments!

So my beans arrived today from the 710 sale.

I picked up Rainbow Gummy, Rainbow Push Pop 7 x Pomelo Punch 5. And the freebies were ZOM (Zkittlez x Orange Mintz) x Rainbow Guava 5. I think I might be more excited about the freebies after seeing how my Rainbow Guava 5 x Pomelo Punch freebies are doing near the end of Week 9 right now!

Anyways I finally got my hands on the rest of the stuff to make my own ferments. The company I use to purchase mine from, Growing Organic, apparently stopped making all their stuff. What a putty because their stuff was top notch.

Anyways I found a complete one gallon fermentation vessel kit on Amazon and then bought EM1 from BuildASoil as well as Unsulfured Black Strap Mollases from a local grocery store. Started my first gallon of Fermented Insect Frass today. I also took a PH reading now because once the ferment is ready the PH drops sharply. It should be around 4 when it’s done.

Here’s the recipe I used in case anyone wants to make their own. I’m using the anerobic method. Only one cup of Frass is needed and a tablespoon each of EM1/LABs and Molasses per gallon of water. I buy my Frass by the 25 pound bag!

Fermented Insect Frass

Fermentation Recipe and Method
Follow this simple process to brew a nutrient-dense, microbe-rich liquid fertilizer:
Gather your ingredients:
1 cup of high-quality insect frass (like mealworm or black soldier fly larvae castings)
1 tablespoon of unsulfured blackstrap molasses (feeds the bacteria)
1 tablespoon of Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) or a commercial Effective Microorganisms (EM-1) inoculant
1 gallon of non-chlorinated water (use well water or let tap water sit out for 24 hours to off-gas) [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Mix the solution: Add the molasses and LAB/EM-1 to the gallon of water and stir thoroughly. Then, slowly mix in the insect frass so it completely dissolves without clumping. [1, 2, 3]
Ferment aerobically or anaerobically:
Anaerobic method: Pour the mixture into an airtight container or a bucket with a tight-fitting lid and airlock. Let it sit at room temperature (20°C to 30°C) out of direct sunlight.
Aerobic method (optional): Alternatively, you can brew this as a tea using an air stone and aquarium pump for 24–48 hours to hyper-oxygenate the solution. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Fermentation time: If you are using the closed-container method, allow the ferment to sit for 1 to 2 weeks, stirring or “burping” the gas out occasionally. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Storage: Once complete, strain out any large particulates to avoid clogging your sprayers and store the liquid in a cool, dark place. [1]

Application
Use your finished fermented frass extract within a few weeks. Dilute it at a rate of 1 to 4 ounces per gallon of water. You can use it as a soil drench to feed root-zone microbiology or as a foliar spray.

I would love to make my own fermented fruit ferments as well for flower but I’m having trouble finding how much fruit I need to use per gallon of water so if anyone knows please help a growmie!! I’m all ears! It’s the same process just a different amount of the input material.

Also, if you don’t want to use and purchase EM1 you can make your own LABs. I can also provide the recipe for that. That’s really easy to do as well. Just need rice, water and whole milk and some time.

Pressing Flower Rosin

Pulled this bad boy out of storage as I haven’t used it in ages. I seemed to have forgotten what I learned!

I turned it on and it’s set at 190F so that’s what I left it at. Unfortunately my first press I had a major blow out. After cleaning it up I realized what I did wrong. I packed and shaped the bag wrong. I also didn’t center the bag in the plates.

However, my questions are as follows.

What do you guys usually press your flower temperature wise? And how long do you press for?

I counted to 60 using the One one thousand, two one thousand method. But for some reason I can swear I use to press for longer. Any help to rattle my brain would be greatly appreciated!

Pressing some flower for a growmie and don’t want anymore screwups!

Start of Week 9: BloomSeedCo Genetics

Today is the start of week 9

On the left is Rainbow Guava #5 x Pomelo Punch
On the right is Pomelo Punch

Haven’t really taken much of a gander at the glands on the majority of the upper colas but I definitely still have time. Last time I checked I still saw a lot of clear glands plus the sugar leaves still haven’t begun to fade or show any signs of getting close to the end. Although the RG#5 x Pomelo Punch is definitely going to finish first.

The Strawberry Drip I started on 6/16 is also doing well. Completely grew out of its weird mutated beginning. I must have definitely screwed up the tap root when I took the starter cube out of the seedling tray. I definitely remember having a bitch of a time getting it out. Next time I’ll be more careful. I’m also going to remind myself to start my next mom way sooner!

Can’t wait for these to finish though! Looking forward to my next run and the one after that! Strawberry Drip is next and then I got a pack of Rainbow Gummy which is Rainbow Push Pop #7 x Pomelo Punch #5 for those that don’t know.

Update on Strawberry Drip Seedling

Transplanted to its final 3 gallon fabric pot to mom out before I can take cuts for next run.

Part of the weird growth may be because it was partially root bound already! But what root mass was there looked mint! Healthy fuzzy and white roots!

As you can see the top most set of leaves already looks normal! Hells yeah!!! 🤘

Flower Day 45: RG#5 x Pomelo Punch and Pomelo Punch

Humming right along.

I wanted to do a final defoliation off the very top of the plants to block all budding sites on Sunday but I got side tracked. Just finished that up right before these pictures were taken.

The first closeup bud shot is the Rainbow Guava #5 x Pomelo Punch and the second closeup is Pomelo Punch. I think I’m going to do a full run of the RG#5 x Pomelo Punch after next run. Something about this cross seems like a winner so far. Excellent yield and smells absolutely fantastic.

I also got lucky and had ONE out of my last three Strawberry Drip beans germinate. It’s growing all weird. I may have pinched the tap root pulling the starter plug out of the seedling tray but it’s growing just fine and if I’m not mistaken the newest set of leaves seems to be growing “normally” so far.

BloomSeedCo Genetics End of Week 5

Growing in a 2x4x1.5’ Grassroots Living Soil Bed under a HLG 350R. Watered by a combination of a gravity fed Blumat drip tape system as well as hand watered.

It’s a true no till living soil setup. This same bed and the soil haven’t been touched or topped off since I started it over 5 years ago. Just reammended between runs and top dressed a few weeks into flower. I also supplement with liquid ferments during flower as well. The bed hosts a slew of beneficial insects and worms including rove beetles, hypoaspis miles, phytoseiulus persimilis, spring tails, isopods, oribatid mites, red wrigglers and European night crawlers.

Currently have two strains growing. On the left side of the bed is Rainbow Guava #5 x Pomelo Punch and on the right side of the bed is Pomelo Punch. These are both a 10-12 week flowering strain but they’re coming along very nicely. Upon opening the tent I am smacked in the face with quite the combo of fruit and funk. Can’t wait to see the results from these two.

Already have my next run started. Looks like I’ll be monocropping my next run. Another BloomSeedCo genetic. Strawberry Drip which is Garlic Drip (GMO x The White) x StrawGuava

Happier Than Pig in Poop!!!

So I started some beans for my next round. I tried popping the last of my three Strawberry Drip. Well I checked them just a few seconds ago and…it looks like I’m monocropping my next run!

At this point I’m just happy I got a single Strawberry Drip to pop!

Start of Week 5: RG#5 x Pomelo Punch and Pomelo Punch

So this is a milestone for me if you haven’t seen any of my previous posts. My last run ended at this very same day. I came home from a two week trip to India only to find out I had brought spider mites into my tent and my entire run of Guava Icee was completely ruined by them. Every single cola was wrapped in a cacoon of webs!

Not this time! I obviously erradicafed those little SOBs! Not a single speck of their existence anywhere!

However…I will definitely be dropping from 12 plants to 8 and vegging for 2 weeks instead of 1. This particular round of plants just doesn’t seem nearly as developed as the last run. Granted the Rainbow Guava #5 x Pomelo Punch on the left just stopped stretching a few days ago. But the Pomelo Punch on the right finished before the end of week 3.

I already started some seeds for the next run. So far nothing has made it above ground. My last three Strawberry Drip beans are some of the ones I’m trying to germinate. I’m crossing my fingers and praying JUST ONE sprouts!

Anyways the first cola picture is a closeup of one of the RG#5 x Pomelo Punches and the second cola picture is one of the Pomelo Punches. They both already got some nice smells coming off of them and seem to be producing a nice amount of resin already considering they haven’t even begin to bulk up yet.

Start of Week 4: RG#5 x Pomelo Punch and Pomelo Punch

Start of Week 4

Still no signs of spider mites!

Lollipopped and did a mass defoliation last night. Mixed the clippings with some IMO3 and top dressed the bed with those.

I also took notice that my moms were just not looking that great so I decided on a major hair cut and a huge root pruning. They were really root bound. I ended up reducing the root zone from a three gallon fabric pot to about a 4”x4”x6” block and repotted them in some new soil back into the original 3 gallon pots. I may have gone a bit too hard on the Pomelo Punch but if it doesn’t survive the extreme hair cut that cut in the tent is a Pomelo Punch and it’s healthy and a cut from that mom so I have a backup.

Plants are cruising right along!

I also reamended the soil I took out so it’ll be ready for the next batch of moms for next round. I’m only keeping the moms around as a just in case scenario. Since I had the shit luck I did with the spider mites and the Guava Icee last round. This way if that happens again I can bounce back much quicker. But so far so good. The predatory mites I got from Arbico Organics look like they decimated the spider mite colony and they’re still in my bed. I see one every now and again. 😁

u/Callllll_Meee_Red — 2 months ago

Start of Week 2: RG#5 x Pomelo Punch and Pomelo Punch

These pictures was taken almost exactly one full week since I put these into flower on May 17th. According to the time stamps I took this most recent set of pictures 14 minutes sooner than the last ones.

Anyways, the left side of the bed is Rainbow Guava #5 x Pomelo Punch and the right side of the bed is Pomelo Punch

I’m surprised I’ve been able to keep the canopy this even considering how much smaller the Pomelo Punch cuts started out as. I’ve also not noticed ANY signs of spider mites. But I’m ready to pull the trigger on more predatory mites from Arbico Organics if I notice even one spec!

One final note. Once again I planted the clones unevenly. You can see the left side of the bed has more room than the right. I’ve already took steps to remediate that issue next run. Took measurements of the inside of the bed and figured out exactly where each hole needs to go.

PS: This run should get interesting. It’s only one week of stretch and these plants have easily doubled in size already. 😎

Blue Marker

Didn’t include any pictures. This drop was your standard SF rosin. Excellent moisture content, great color, and it smelled great upon opening the jar.

If you like gas, this is your strain! It’s very similar to Blue Slush but with a lemon forward flavor. All the descriptions I’ve read say it has a berry flavor but I didn’t pick up on that whatsoever. It’s definitely heavy limonene up front followed by that gas/funk of Blue Slush.

If you’re looking for something from SF that isn’t candy, this should definitely be your style. Lemony, gassy and funky. Wish I had the cash to pick up two jars! I’ll definitely be picking this up going forward.

Bar Style LED Recommendations

I currently have a 2x4 tent with a HLG 350R. I’ve now replaced the dimmer potentiometer twice and I’m very close to its 50,000 hour life expectancy. I’m kind of on the fence on what light I want to purchase next.

On one hand I would very much like to get a bar style LED but only if I can find one compatible to my HLG. My current light is the TITS and to make things better HLG’s tech support is awesome!

I’m currently looking at another HLG, specifically this one.

https://horticulturelightinggroup.com/collections/lamps/products/hlg-350r

However, I wouldn’t mind going to a light bar with a removable driver that I can relocate outside my tent.

Any help is greatly appreciated!
