Hi all,

I’ve had an open discectomy around 4 weeks ago. I stayed in hospital for 2 nights and then came home. My sciatic pain was understandably worse immediately after surgery but I expected it to settle. Whilst there has been a small amount of improvement, 4 weeks down the line I am still struggling with pain to the point where I can’t walk more then 5-6 metres.

The pain is extreme in comparison to pre op pain which never stopped me walking it was just uncomfortable. Post op this pain is debilitating.

Is this normal?
How long should I expect it to linger?
