TN renewal with same employer via USCIS or CBP (Iran-born, Canadian) Input/recommendation.

Hi all,

I’m trying to get a sense of what’s going on with TNs right now — I’m a Canadian citizen (born in Iran) and need to renew my TN with same employer. I am on TN for over 12 years now and this is my second employer who I am working for over 3 years. I am within 5 months of TN expiry and my company has their attorney firm. Basically, I am not the attorney's client but my employer. For many years I did renew my TN at pre-clearance at YVR by myself. This is the 1st time I have asked to be renewed via USCIS, since I didn't want to be dealing face to face with officer due to tension of countries. Today, my employer's attorney called and wanted me to be aware of policy changing any minute and there is no guarantee what will be. She has suggested that if I want to go with USCIS, choose the premium process and pay around $3K if I don't wish to travel (my company does not pay for this) and she prepares my TN package OR I travel to the border (Mexico), or fly to visit my family in Vancouver and apply at CBP as usual :) to have a respond right away. She says that if anything changes to be like 4-5 months ago, the USCIS might put my case on hold like they did before for her clients born in Iran. I need to let her know about what path I am willing to pursue. It's really difficult decision for me as this is the first time over 12-13 years I am anxious about TN renewal. I appreciate your inputs or if anyone had the same experience recently. BTW, My TN category is "Chemist" and I am in R&D dept. and Part of my job is leading R&D project as Project manager.
