Hi!
I was planning on applying to med school this cycle (3.9 GPA, MCAT 1st attempt was 511, second attempt we will see soon…). I have lots and lots of clinical hours (around 2,000 by now from PCT and MA jobs) and around 1000 volunteer hours from being committed to volunteering at the same organization every week through college. I only have 100 research hours and my premed advisor from my undergrad institution essentially told me that it is unrealistic for me to expect to get into any MD schools due to my lack of research. Is this true???? I thought there were MD schools with more service based missions that don’t care for that. I love my job as an MA and I don’t want to leave it to pursue research if I don’t absolutely have to… and even if i get a research job before June, would that matter or would I be better off working it for a year and applying next cycle because I am not sure anyone would want to hire an RA for just a year. ughhhh sorry i am spiraling bc in october she told me my limited research was no big deal and now a month before apps are due it is make or break apparently.
